WHAT IS ROBOTIC SURGERY?

The term ‘robotic’ often misleads patients. The da Vinci system does not control itself rather it provides the surgeon with advanced laparoscopic instruments that they control via an operating console.

Once a series of small ‘keyhole’ incisions are made on your abdomen, ports are inserted that attach to the robotic arms. These arms control tiny wristed instruments that mimic your surgeons hand movements in real-time. The system also provides highly magnified, 3D HD vision that is superior to conventional laparoscopy.

WHAT CAN BE DONE ROBOTICALLY?

Robotic surgery can be used for any operation that is usually performed laparoscopically. It also enables us to do more complex cases that previously would have to be an open procedure.

The most commonly performed robotic procedures are:

Myomectomies (removal of fibroids)
